Easily one of Canada’s most famous landmark signs, the spinning neon records are a symbol of the Canadian music industry. Created in the early sixties, the sign has lit up Yonge street and has become a much loved icon, and a cultural meeting place for Toronto’s musical community.
To correct this glaring omission from the site, it seems most fitting to show the iconic Sam The Record Man sign in its lit-up nighttime glory, in the daytime, early on in its installation (sometime in the 70s), as well as the last time it was turned on, which was for Nuit Blanche in 2008.
R.I.P. Sam.
