![ontario hydro logo.jpg](http://canadiandesignresource.ca/wp-content/uploads/2007/10/ontario hydro logo.jpg) I added a brochure cover by Allan Fleming and another designed by Norman Hathaway which use this logo really well in production.

This is not the rendition that Allan Fleming designed. You are a) missing the word mark, which is very significant. As well the original corners of the plug had smaller radii.

Had the priveledge of working with Allan while becoming a journeyman typographer at Cooper & Beatty…was actually in his office when he picked his final choice of desin from 5 he had decided upon for the “CN” logo.
He gave a full introduction as to how he decided upon the design and what it depicted. He was a brilliant man only to live a short life.
Kudos Allan, your desings have never changed, a testament to supererior creative design.

If anyone is interested, DA A Journal of the Printing Arts (Porcupine’s Quill Publishers) is publishing two issues of their journal about Allan Fleming which I as one of his three children have edited. The first one is out now and the second one is due in December 2008.
The word mark, which showed ontariohydro as a word resembling an electrical cord coming out of the OH ‘plug’ was always intended to fall away from the design over time once people got used to the logo on its own. Norman Hathaway of Hathaway Templeton did all the applications, and both he and Allan worked closely with Ontario Hydro over many years following the introduction of the logo.
Dave Donaldson, would you get in touch with me? I would like to speak to you about Allan if you have a moment.

Martha,
Let us know earlier to the launch date and we can feature it here on the site. Thanks for the post and glad that you took the time to fill in some of the gaps here on the CDR.
Best,
Todd Falkowsky

My Father lives and breathes Ontario Hydro as he worked there for 26 years. He started in 1966 and retired in 1992. My Dad is now 80 years old and some of his best memories are of this little orange logo as it was his world for so long as a dedicated employee. By the time he rtetired he had about 3.5 years saved in sick days as he always enjoyed going to work. You don’t find dedication like that these days. Kudos for your Father in designing this logo in an age where graphics and computers were non existent.

I too worked at Ontario Hydro and this symbol is far more superior and identifiable than the current Hydro One’s. When I see I white hydro truck I really have to look to see if it is Hydro One or any other utility. The ‘plug’ always stood out. I was proud of it.
