The Olympic Truce was the result of a United Nations Resolution – signed by 184 nations – calling for a truce in all wars during a period of seven days before the opening and seven days after the closing of the Games. The Truce is a revival of the traditional moratorium on armed conflict observed during the ancient Games. For the first time in modern Olympic history, flags with this Olympic Truce symbol were flown during the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Games, and the warring factions in Sarajevo paused to observe the Truce. Created by Canadian graphic designer Wei Yew, the Olympic Truce is symbolized by a dove of peace against the traditional Olympic flame. The festive “effervescent” confetti making up the flame suggest celebration of the human spirit of all races. -Greg Durrell

Far too busy, the three separate elements are just that, three separate elements. Dove graphic… pixelated texture gives off 90’s hi-tech vibe, the overall shape has no meaning, to me it looks like a couple guys in bad suit jackets trying to remove themselves from an oil pit – If there’s ONE thing I do remember from design school, when designing a logo, be sure it can be reversed easily, also, it can be reproduced on any media (embroidering of this logo?!) and from a distance it can be easily recognized – this logo fails in ALL those fairly standard design norms. The typography is weak, spacing is off, no refinement or care taken, the space between two words is off-putting. Considering it ‘supposedly’ comes from one of Canada’s ‘better’ designers, it’s an easily forgettable attempt at what could and should of been a strong trademark. Was that a bit too harsh?!
