“I have a lovely wood stool that I inherited from the CDN painter Loi Hathaway after she passed away a few years ago. She is famous for her water colour work but more so for her work with Norman Hathaway – her husband – who was president of OCA, part of the team that did the Canadian flag, and also did the ON logo. She did loads of recognizable graphic design work, like the original Smarties and Coffee Crisp packaging. This was the stool she used to paint with, so it is speckled with paint and patina. It is a completely unknown maker (very Canadian), but her family thought it might have come from Peterborough…and might have come from Eaton’s. It is formally gorgeous, very Scandinavian, but the story is so great. I would like to reissue it, and brand it as the Loi Stool, and tell a bit of her story to support the marketing of the piece. She needs to be remembered, her story told, and the stool will fit your product line up nicely. I’ll send you some pics if this concept is attractive to you. All we would need is a couple pieces made and set up on your site to sell. If there are orders, I am happy to do whatever split you normally use.” Todd Falkowsky
