Les Allusifs is a Quebec based publishing house founded in 2001 by author Brigitte Bouchard. Specializing in short novels (generally no more than 200 pages) in pocket sized formats, Les Allusifs roughly translates to the allusive ones – a fitting name for a format in which what’s left unsaid can be just as powerful as the words on a page. The above series of covers, designed by Paprika and featuring illustrations by Alain Pilon, elegantly embodies this concept by alluding to the complexities of the literature with collages of the mundanely literal. Bacon fat brows, trinkets as landscape, and facial chimeras, all floating on solid backgrounds, make for a series of covers both arrestingly haunting and immediately appealing.
