Creative reuse creates new designs from existing and salvaged products. Inspired by collage and Readymade, this technique is a natural product of necessity and innate human ingenuity. Incorporating used products into new designs diverts from growing landfills, reduces energy consumption and the need to harvest new materials, and demonstrates how design can address real issues beyond styling. Design critic and futurist, Bruce Sterling suggests that as economic and environmental pressures grow, this strategy will become increasingly dominant, eventually replacing the professional designer with a new expert, the redesigner.
