A quiet Vancouver neighbourhood just welcomed a new public art project into its fold. This urban geyser is the latest addition to the spectacular facility built up for the 2010 Olympics. Kwan explains, “it operates only when the community’s water use demands it (water is flushed back into the cistern for use in irrigation and washroom facilities). With every explosion, the Hillcrest Geyser effectively reveals the city-designed infrastructure that define the water use on site (the community centre also features a very popular aquatic centre and skating rink)– in much the same way that Old Faithful, for instance, makes visible the earth’s natural rumblings”.
