Davis Phinney Foundation in partnership with Mariposa Bikes sponsored an auction for two Mariposa hand-built steel bikes on September 17, 2018. All proceeds are donated to the Davis Phinney Foundation. As an Olympic Bronze medalist and Tour de France stage winner, Davis Phinney has celebrated the most victories of any cyclist in American history. Following a diagnosis of Young-onset Parkinson’s disease (YOPD), he started the Davis Phinney Foundation to promote and fund innovative research that makes it possible to live well with Parkinson’s today. Your bidding in this auction helps support this important work. Mariposa Bicycles has donated bikes to support this important cause. From the first frame handbuilt in 1969, Mariposa has been about one goal: building the ideal bicycle for the customer. Unlike most bicycles, which are produced by machines on assembly lines, Mariposas have always been handbuilt by cyclists for cyclists. Mariposa has supplied these custom all-road bikes as fundraising centerpieces for the Growling Beaver Brevet, an annual event co-founded by Michael and Dede Barry that benefits the Davis Phinney Foundation. With the help of its industry partners, Mariposa and the Growling Beaver are making this 2018 auction available to all-road enthusiasts everywhere to coincide with this year’s ride.
