Abe Calp opened his first store in 1933. Calp’s became one of the most popular stores in Saint John selling women’s and men’s clothing, shoes and had departments for hats, makeup and wedding dresses. For budget conscious customers there was also a bargain basement.

Calp’s advertised in the newspaper each week, sometimes with full page ads and many sales drew large numbers of customers.
