These types of iron bridges have become anonymous features of the rural landscape across the west. Typically known as CNR Bridges, people no longer know when they were constructed or even who designed and built them. I am not sure if the lack of names/dates is as important as the celebration of the technology itself and in the contribution that these connectors made to the growth of the country. With the same DNA as the Eiffel tower and Pritchard’s first iron bridge, these simple meccano forms appear to contrast the high technology and engineering needed to make them. These shapes are wonderful proof of human invention and literally opened up rural Canada to travel and shipping.
