The Chevron marks on the body of this piece are a homage to the Petun’s who lived in the Georgian Triangle area of Ontario. The Petun were part of the Huron confederacy, until nearly wiped out by the Iroquois in the late 1700’s. Many pieces of Petun pottery (all broken shards) were found in the same area that Blue Mountain Pottery was founded, and BMP created a cream and sugar set (and possibly other items) to honour the found Petun ceramics. It is rare that indigenous pottery was created at all, for many reasons, but a nomadic lifestyle was the main one, so this was a truly rare find.
