I am an obvious fan of work that references Canadian icons, and is inspired by the local flavours of the nation. Kudos to Westbeach for creating a full inventory of clothing that taps this muse. Smart and ironic, the clothes (shown are the Bacon Scarf, the Hockey Mask Balaclava and the Locarno Hoody) offer a fresh perspective on this library of inspirations. Here is the design lesson for us all. Look around your backyard and incorporate the unique elements that are there in your work, and never be afraid to use the cultural iconography we share.
