something doesn’t jive here. if the face value when tendered is $200, but the actual value of the gold is $1000 what’s to stop people from melting these down so their $200 investment becomes worth a value five times greater?

Every coin must have a face value to be considered leagle tender. This value is arbitrary. These are investment coins and as such their true value is expressed in their weight. Each coin is also stamped with a weight value of pure gold. This is how the value of the coin will be determinded. If you buy one of these coins it will cost you the current price per oz of gold. Price per coin will thus vary regularly.
